Our History
TURNING POINT CHURCH HISTORY
We are a community of people who have joined together to help others
turn and transform their lives to God. We believe in the message of Jesus
Christ and that he died that we might have abundant life. We seek true riches
of God’s Kingdom through His love and forgiveness. It is our goal to help
people find meaning in life by having a personal relationship with Jesus.
In the month of July 2010, Pastor Swann met with two
different groups of people to explore starting a church. Before the end of the
month they were meeting every two weeks in planning and preparation for a
launch in October.
A lot of excitement and anticipation surrounded the group.
We had our first preview service at the pastor’s house on August 29th. We secured
the Winston Salem Sports Complex for our next preview service September 12th,
using one of their banquet rooms. Several more people were added to our core
group.
The date of our grand opening was October 10th 2010.
10-10-10!
During out time at the Sports Complex we were able to make
food donations to the Rescue Mission Center and serve as test monitors at The
Winston Salem Preparatory Academy.
The many venues taking place at the Sports Complex forced
Turning Point to look for another home. In February 2011, Turning Point Church
moved into another location at 4410 Providence Lane in Winston Salem.
At his location we
started our nursery and youth ministry and expanded our children’s ministry.
These groups meet during our Sunday Worship service at 10 am.
Also at this location we organized several outreach
projects. We provided snacks for the homeless, gave school supplies to children
and supported the Forsyth Prison Ministry with toiletries for the inmates. While
at this location we continued to pray and seek a permanent location for the
ministry.
While we prayed for a permeant location we wondered in the
wilderness, worshiping at a hotel and a church on Beaux Mountain road.
In October 2017 God lead us to a property on 2400 Bethabara Road, a former church that had been
converted into a daycare center. After a meeting with the congregation we
agreed to actively pursue this property. On May 16th, 2018 through
the grace of God and friends we able to close and take possession of the
property.
